Event Description
Rioja is by far Spain's most well-known wine region. Known for its long-lived, mainly red, oaked wines based on the Tempranillo grape variety it also produces youuthful, easy-drinking red wines, a small amount of white wine and even some rosé.
Recent classification changes have introduced more structure based on more specific geographic regions, and combined with the established ageing regulations there is much to explore here.
We will sample the following wines
- White Rioja
- Rosado (rosé) Rioja
- Rioja Joven (young, unoaked red)
- Rioja Crianza (2 years ageing including 1 in barrel)
- Rioja Reserva (3 years ageing including 1 in barrel)
- Rioja Gran Reserva (5 years ageing including 2 in barrel)
