Event Description

A course designed either as an introductory event, or a celebration of the sheer variety of the “World of Wine”, 4 fun-filled evenings during the summer.

Week 1 - Wednesday 28th July

What better place to start than a refreshing, aromatic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc?  With its intense nose, it’s easy to see why this is such a popular style here in the UK.

We follow up with a grape variety that is also highly aromatic but a variety different kind of nose, combining strong floral and spices.  The enigmatic Gewurztraminer is associated with Alsace in France, but our example is from Northern Italy.

  • Two Rivers Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand)
  • Bottega Vinai Gewurztraminer (Italy)

Week 2 - Wednesday 4th August

The most planted grape variety in the world is Chardonnay, so we take a trip down under to see what the Australians can do with this most versatile of grape varieties.

Rosé has become amazingly popular in recent years, and its origins are Provence in France, which is exactly where our example is from.  A lovely wine for the summer.

  • Hesketh Lost Weekend Chardonnay - Limestone Coast (Australia)
  • Chateau Routas Provence Rose (France)

Week 3 - Wednesday 11th August

Pinot Noir is historically from Burgundy in France but has founded a second home in California.  The film “Sideways” is an homage to Californian Pinot Noir, so here we take a look at a great example to see what the fuss is about.

Returning to “the old country” (France), we visit a well-known region that is rapidly establishing a reputation for great wine – Corbieres.  A full-bodied red wine featuring Grenache and Syrah grape varieties.

  • The Crusher Pinot Noir (USA)
  • Chateau Fabres Corbieres-Boutenac (France)

Week 4 - Wednesday 18th August

We conclude our celebration of the world of wine with two absolute classic red wines.  Rioja in Spain specialises in wines that are aged in oak, and here we have a Gran Reserva, a wine that has spent at least 2 years in oak barrels.

Finally, Malbec is the signature grape of Argentina and we pay tribute to “the mighty M” with a top-quality, full-bodied, traditional style Malbec.

  • Bodegas Muriel Rioja Gran Reserva (Spain)
  • Altocedro Old Vine Malbec (Argentina)

The course costs just £60 per screen., delivered via “Zoom” with the wines supplied separately (see below).

With relaxed social distancing rules perhaps invite your friends for an “al fresco” tasting experience in the garden.

The wines are available from our friendly local wine merchant, Momentum Wines of Oswestry for £130.00 including delivery (we do not sell wine).

Please click here to be taken to the Momentum Wines website to order your wine.

Please allow 7 days for delivery.
