Event Description
Here comes the Sun - Three Weeks in Provence
Discover the secrets of this well-loved region.
In our final online tasting before the summer recess we visit the delights of Provence. The fields of purple lavender, the Côte d’Azur, the sunlight, oh the beauty, the glamour. The rosé. Mmm the rosé. Yes we will taste a rosé. A very good one in fact. But the very best Provence wines aren’t pink.
The Mediterranean climate is perfect for producing high quality wines beyond rosé. The red and white wines of Provence are worth discovering. If you can find them that is. From tiny appellations with limited production red and white wines account for only 12% of production. Mostly consumed on the terraces of smart restaurants along the Riviera.
For this tasting I have pulled together six wines from six different regions of Provence. Featuring Provencal grapes such as; Clairette, Bourboulenc, Mourvѐdre, Cinsault, Folle Noir and Braquet Noir.
The Wines:
Luberon: Ch. La Canorgue Blanc £17.75
Organic blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc grown at altitude.
Bandol: Mas de la Rouvière Rosé 2020 £21.50
“Gives Tempier a run for its money”
Cassis: Clos Sainte Magdeleine Blanc 2021 £26.50
Produced from grapes grown on the slopes of France's highest sea cliff, the Cap Canaille.
Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence: Domaine des Oullieres Rouge 2019 £13.90
Made from a hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Noir and Syrah. A Rhône - Bordeaux fusion.
IGP Méditerranée: Domaine Richeaume 'Cuvée Tradition' 2018 £19.50
A lovely wine made by lovely people. Sylvain looked after me royally despite visiting on a Sunday during harvest ….
Bellet: Domaine de la Source Rouge 2018 £29.50
A favourite on the wine lists of Nice's best restaurants. High-quality, distinctive, artisanal winemaking at its best.
Case from Yapp Brothers, price £128.65 including delivery.
The 3 week course costs £60. Click to join the course and I will email the details to purchase the wines.
Course starts Thursday 7th July, 3 Weeks and all sessions are recorded if you miss a live session.
Now I’ll concede that these wines may be best served on the sun-drenched deck of a private yacht but, failing that, join us online, spread some tapenade and whet your appetite for the summer ahead.
