Event Description
We're opening up our fine wine cellar, delving into its hidden depths, to find you some classic Italian gems ahead of Christmas
There may now be many competitors in the wine world, but Italy still provides the benchmark for 'special occasion wines'. This tasting gives you a chance to try seven wines from the most famous regions - we will be tasting the following:
Franciacorta - Italy's answer to Champagne and one that perhaps offers even better value for money than it's French counterpart does. The prefect aperitivo for Christmas.
Lugana Ca dei Frati - a wonderful aromatic white from the shores of Lake Garda - crisp, aromatic and perfumed.
A wonderful Carricante wine, grown at 800m above sea level on the slopes of Mount Etna, gently aged in old oak - depth, texture and wonderful richness, all in one glass!
A classic, beautifully structured Nebbiolo wine from the superb La Morra village in Barolo - it's structure & beautiful aromas of red berries and spiced, floral notes go perfectly with richer dishes.
A simply gorgeous Sangiovese wine from Tuscany, where it's known as Morellino. Aged in oak, this is spicy, soft & mellow but packed with aromas - just delicious!
A rich, robust and heart warming Taurasi DOCG wine (the Aglianico grape) from the wonderful Campania region - a warm hug in a glass, perfect for the fireside and board games!
We'll round of the evening with a gorgeous treat dessert wine that is the finishing flourish to any celebration dinner.
We'll take a look at Christmas themed food ideas to pair beautifully with these Italian Classics, giving you loads of inspiration ahead of the festive season.
The perfect pre-Christmas treat!
Please note that there is unfortunately no disabled access to the basement room at Geography Wine Bar where we run our events.
