Event Description

Join us for a 4-part online course looking at the major regions and grapes of New Zealand. We'll tour Hawkes Bay, Marlborough and Central Otago (and revisit Little Beauty winery owner Fleur McCree)!

One of our most successful courses last year was exploring the wines of Little Beauty with winery owner Fleur McCree. Fleur is dedicated to supplying quality restaurants with her range but lockdown meant that market suddenly disappeared for her.

Fleur's personal story is fascinating and her wines were a big hit with our crowd. Last month she approached us again to arrange a second session using wines we didn't try last time. Her email arrived as we were thinking about a 4-part course focusing on New Zealand wines.

We'll taste some of Fleur's special wines from her 'library' of previous vintages, many of which she has kept back to age. We'll look at the effect of a decade of ageing comparing a 2019 Riesling with one made in 2009, two Gewirztraminer wines highlighting different winemaking techniques and two Pinot Gris, one made in stainless steel tanks using cultured yeast and the other (Black edition) made using wild yeast and aged in barrel.

We'll also cast the net wider and look at Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir from Central Otago comparing it with warmer Hawkes Bay, then dive into Hawkes Bay further to learn about wines made from Bordeaux grapes, Chardonnay and discover **what on earth is so special about Gimblett Gravels**.

James Thorne has put together a 12-case of delicious wines including the Little Beauty set at an exclusive 15% discount with free delivery in sustainable recyclable packaging.

Note - you need only consume a tasting sample of each wine opened during the session and you can follow our wine preservation tips to keep leftovers for another day.

Simply book your spaces and we'll send a link for ordering the wines. We will also send instructions for joining the Zoom calls from a desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone. Zoom is proving to be a very sociable medium for wine tasting so we can guarantee you'll have fun! Each session will last just over an hour.
