White wines are often the purest expression of grape character. There is something unmistakable about Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling, wherever thy are grown in the world. On the other hand, Chardonnay is a much-misunderstood grape variety. It has a great ability to express what the French call "Terroir", reflecting the conditions in which it is grown. It is also the variety where winemakers can demonstrate their skills to create something that combines the power of nature with what wine-making "Savoir-Faire" can bring.
