Event Description
Join us for our evening tasting, Tour de France Stage 1, which covers the classic French Wine Regions of Loire Valley and Bordeaux. We will taste at least 6 red and white wines which will showcase the best of these two world class regions.
The Loire Valley
In the wettest part of France, the North West, they call it 'The Garden of France' as it is beautifully green and lush. Here lies the Loire Valley, a grape growing area famous as the home of Sauvignon Blanc. We'll take a look at the subtle differences between Sancerre and Pouilly Fume and talk about why so many people love this classic French grape. Then we will head to Tours for the birthplace of the versatile Chenin Blanc in Vouvray. On the estuary of the Loire lies Nantes famous for the classic Muscadet, a great match for seafood.
Bordeaux
Bordeaux is probably the World's most famous wine region and we all know it as the home of ‘Claret’ the generic name we give to the region’s classic reds. But there is much more to this warm, south-westerly part of France. The climate and soils are perfectly suited to the red grapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot but the region also produces deliciously vibrant & complex whites from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. If you thought that Bordeaux was just about expensive red wines, this tasting will reveal how much variety is really available - delicious food-friendly reds & whites to suit every budget.
Professional ISO tasting glasses, all course materials including tasting sheets & water are provided.
